Robson House (PLSS) Outreach works with the NHS to deliver the Camden Language and Communication Service (CLCS)
The Camden Language and Communication Service (CLCS) is an integrated team of Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Teachers. The team sits within the Primary Learning Support Service, a borough wide resource which provides support and advice to schools in Camden.
CLCS works together with schools and families to support children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in primary mainstream schools in Camden.
CLCS provides assessment and intervention for individual children with severe and specific SLCN needs, such as Autism and Specific Language Impairment. We also work at a whole school level, aiming to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence of school staff in meeting the needs of children with SLCN. This may involve pieces of work such as whole school training or developing communication friendly environments.
CLCS is based at Robson House, within the Netley Campus on Stanhope Street.
CLCS provides a service to children with speech, language and communication needs, who are of primary school age in Camden. We also provide support and training to staff in schools, other agencies working with children with SLCN, and to parents and carers.
Referrals for a Speech and Language Therapy assessment are usually made by the school’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Referrals are made using a Single Point of Referral form –schools must discuss this with parents and carers and get their agreement to do this.
All direct work with children by CLCS is agreed with parents and carers and focused on agreed outcomes. There are regular reviews with parents, carers and staff to review progress. CLCS places great emphasis on working in partnership with schools, children and parents/carers.
CLCS staff have access to a wide range of professional development which is aimed at supporting them to develop greater understanding of the needs of children SLCN and/or ASD as well as to enhance their various professional areas of expertise.
